Ever since her debut in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, Parineeti Chopra has looked a natural on screen. However, many might not know that acting wasn’t always her passion. In fact, Parineeti had earlier stated that she always had been a very good student and wanted to become an investment banker in London and not only that, she disliked acting and actors so much that she felt the entire profession was just an excuse to put on more makeup. During her course in Manchester Business School, she used to take orientation classes for new students at the University and she worked part-time for the Manchester United Football Club as the team leader of the catering department.

However, recession hit hard after she graduated which resulted in a shortage of jobs for bankers in the UK. Parineeti was forced to come back to India but failed to secure an opening even in her home country. Out of options, she took up a job in the marketing and public relations team of Yash Raj Films. During her time there, she learned more and more about the craft of acting and making movies which brought a new found sense of respect in her mind for the profession. Watching her sister prepare for her role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf also gave her a glimpse of the amount of work that actors put in for their roles.

While she was working on the marketing of Band Baaja Baraat, director Maneesh Sharma often asked her, ‘Why don’t you become an actress?’ While she didn’t say anything at the time, she seriously began considering acting as a profession. Maneesh Sharma even went ahead and suggested Aditya Chopra to consider Parineeti for a role. However, at the time Aditya found the idea of hiring someone from his marketing team as an actress to be appalling and turned it down. Maneesh Sharma realised that the only way to get Parineeti Chopra noticed was by getting her on film reel. So, he suggested that she meet a casting director for some ‘advice’ about her career. When Parineeti met up with the casting director, he forced her to do a dummy camera audition for fun. For that audition, Parineeti decided to play the character of Geet from Jab We Met which was originally portrayed by Kareena Kapoor Khan. Her bubbly and full of life personality caught the eye of Aditya Chopra when he saw the audition tape and she bagged the part of Dimple Chaddha in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl.

Even though her debut film might not have set the box-office on fire, the world knew that Parineeti Chopra has what it takes to be amongst the best. It’s hard to grab the attention of the audience in your debut film when you are surrounded by three other gorgeous ladies, however, Parineeti managed to make quite an impression. Her performance as the naive and outspoken Delhi girl was appreciated by the audience and critics. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Female) for her work in the film.

In the following year, Parineeti Chopra’s second Bollywood film hit the screens which was titled Ishaqzaade. Directed by the extremely talented Habib Faisal, the film also featured Parineeti’s close friend Arjun Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut in the same film. Even though the role was similar to her first film, Parineeti kept it simple and didn’t go too overboard with it which worked in her favour as her performance once again garnered praise from the critics as well as the audiences.

Later on, Parineeti went on to collaborate once again with Maneesh Sharma in Shuddh Desi Romance in which she shared screen space with Sushant Singh Rajput and Vaani Kapoor. Her portrayal as a modern rebellious girl earned her a big thumbs up from the viewers. Her work also earned her a nomination in the category of Best Actress for the Filmfare Awards. The following year Parineeti starred opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee which was also her first film outside the Yash Raj banner. In this experimental rom-com, she played a wacky scientist who had a childhood like innocence to her. Despite her role being extremely different from her previous projects, Parineeti looked comfortable on screen.

After Hasee Toh Phasee, Parineeti’s career went through a face of low with Kill Dill and Daawat-E-Ishq. Both the films had good buzz going for it prior to the release however, the lack of a strong script and plot resulted in these films bombing at the box-office.

After a three year sabbatical, Parineeti returned to the big screen with Mere Pyaari Bindu, another Yash Raj production. The film was a bitter sweet love story which brings a lump to your throats but also never lets the smile let go off your face. With this film, Parineeti also got to show off some of her acting abilities that we did not witness before thanks to the quirks and flaws and lows and highs of the character which helped it feel more realistic. With Meri Pyari Bindu, Parineeti also made her debut as a singer with two versions of the song "Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin” from the film.

In the same year, Parineeti starred opposite Ajay Devgn in the fourth edition of the Golmaal series. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film managed to score big at the box-office with the lifetime collections amounting to Rs. 311 crore at the worldwide box-office. The film became the biggest hit of the Golmaal series and also is the biggest hit of Parineeti Chopra’s career till date.

Although, Parineeti Chopra’s latest release Namaste England has received underwhelming reviews, fans are excited as the actress has quite a few big projects lined up for the next year. Her first expected release is Sandeep Air Pink Faraar which like Namaste England also stars Arjun Kapoor. Later, she will be seen opposite Akshay Kumar in Kesari, which is based on the battle of Saraghari. She will also be reuniting with her Hasee Toh Phasee co-star Sidharth Malhotra in Jabariya Jodi. The film is said to be an earthy and rooted love story set in the city of Lucknow.
