Trailer Alert: Diljit Dosanjh aces as Sandeep Singh in the Soorma trailer

Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu are ready to star together for the first time in the Sandeep Singh biopic titled Soorma. Ace Indian hockey player, Sandeep Singh, was paralysed after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006. He was confined to a wheelchair for two years. It was after fighting several odds, that Singh got back on his feet and made his comeback in international hockey in 2008. Soorma stars Diljit Dosanjh playing the hockey player along with Taapsee Pannu, Chitrangda Singh and Angad Bedi, who will also be seen in pivotal roles.

Directed by Shaad Ali, the trailer of the Sandeep Singh biopic was released today. In the trailer, Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh can be seen transformed for his character in the film. The two-and-a-half-minute long trailer traces Dosanjh aka Sandeep Singh trying to win over the love of his life (played by Taapsee Pannu), to find his goal in the world of hockey. Soon after that he sets out to win a medal for India. But the gunshot accident left him paralysed. Losing hope in love and in ever playing the game, he’s dejected. He eventually gathers the courage and strength to return once again on the field.

Interestingly, back in 2009 it was under Singh’s captaincy when India won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and as well qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London. Sandeep Singh is the most impressive drag-flickers of all time with drag speed of over 145 km/hr, which led to his nickname, ‘Flicker Singh’. On playing Sandeep Singh in the film, Diljit Dosanjh said, “They (the makers) were so convinced. I heard the script and thought it would be wrong if I did not sign the film.”

Soorma is slated for its release on July 13.
