Nawazuddin Siddique talks about attending the Cannes film festival for the ninth time

Nawazuddin Siddique is one of the most impressive actors of today’s time. He has proved his mettle time and again by essaying character roles that are engraved in the minds of the audience. Nawazuddin will soon be seen in Manto which is a biopic on the life of writer Saadat Hassan Manto. Nawazuddin will be seen essaying the popular writer’s part and his look in the film has made the audience curious to watch the actor deliver another class apart performance on screen. Manto has been selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2018 and during an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Nawazuddin Siddique spoke about living an entire life in 3 months of playing Manto, being excited to attend the Cannes Film Festival for the 9th time and choosing the right kind of films.

Manto has been directed by Nandita Das and will compete at the Cannes Film Festival this year under the section of Un Certain Regard. Talking about the film getting selected for the Cannes Film Festival, Nawaz said, “It is like the biggest award in the world. I am especially glad for Nandita Das as she put in 5 years of her life to make this film.”

The actor went on to explain the amount of hard work that went into playing the character of Manto. He explained, “One can only play Manto’s character if they become totally honest with themselves, otherwise you can’t play his character. The most challenging part of playing Manto was that I had to stay true to myself. My real and reel life got connected while playing this character. It wasn’t just a film for me, it was a way of life, where I had several realizations. I lived a whole life within 3 months of playing Manto’s character.”

This will be the 9th time Nawaz will be attending the film festival while talking about the difference between his first time at the event and now, he said, “When I went to Cannes for the first time I had a certain kind of excitement. The excitement is still there, however, it is about the fact that I am on the right path and haven’t wavered from the correct track. I feel proud that I am selecting the right kinds of films for myself and haven’t become corrupt in the process of becoming famous. The selection of Manto has made me realize that I am on the right track.”

The film is expected to hit the theatres once the team returns back from the film festival.
