Pari was expected to take an opening in the range of Rs. 3-4 crore and in that aspect the film has actually managed to be on the higher side of the predictions. With Rs. 4.36 crore coming its way, the film has taken a fair start.

In India there isn’t much market for a Bollywood horror film. Except for Ragini MMS 2 (which was basically riding on the power of Sunny Leone and a chartbuster song ‘Baby Doll’) which took a start of Rs. 8.43 crore, none of the other horror films have actually managed an opening per se. Hence, the expectations were of just about fair numbers and this is how Pari performed too.

These numbers too have come in basically due to an A lister like Anushka Sharma playing the title role. That brought in the visibility factor. What has to be seen now is how the film progresses over the weekend. Since the reviews and reports are mixed, one can’t expect great jumps on Saturday and Sunday. However, even if the film maintains same collections as Friday, it may just be fine since the budget is controlled and quite some moolah has already been recovered through ancillary rights.

Second release of the week, Veerey Ki Wedding, hasn’t really taken much of an opening. The Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda and Jimmy Sheirgill starrer has stayed under the Rs. 1 crore mark. In fact the film has opened just a little better than Pulkit’s Junooniyat [2016] which had brought in Rs. 0.4 crore on its opening day. It has to be seen whether the film manages to see some momentum building over the weekend.
