Aamir Khan has always been a superstar with a difference. He has always gone that extra mile in order to bring change in the society in various areas. It all began in 2012 when he unveiled his hard-hitting reality show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. After three successful seasons, the superstar decided to take up his initiative further. In 2016, with the help and support of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he helped in the launch of ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’. It is essentially a competition between different villages to see who can do the maximum work for watershed management and water conservation in the period of the competition.

Now the ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’ is in its third season and it has become bigger. Yesterday, the launch of Season 3 was held in Mumbai and was graced by Aamir Khan, Devendra Fadnavis, Mukesh Ambani (whose Reliance Foundation has given unanimous support), Ratan Tata (whose Tata Trusts have been at the forefront of the movement), Kiran Rao, Satyajit Bhatkal, Shantilal Mutha, Dr Prashant Pol and minister Jaykumar Rawal. This time, 7000 to 9000 villages are expected to participate. In other words, 1/4th of Maharashtra will be participating in this social initiative as this time, 75 talukas have shown interest.

The first two seasons of ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’ have had a huge impact. During the last season, 8261 crore litres of water capacity was created. Many villages that were a part of the competition haven’t seen farmer suicides and that’s a feat since over the past few years, such deaths have particularly increased in Maharashtra.

On the film front, Aamir Khan is shooting currently for Thugs Of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. This period action flick is directed by Dhoom 3 director Vijay Krishna Acharya and releases on Diwali this year.
